At Chessington World of Adventures Resort and SEA LIFE centre, Propump Engineering’s lightweight foamed concrete has helped to re-strengthen the foundations supporting the ray tank – with an application that caused minimal disruption to the aquarium and its inhabitants.
For the ray tank renovation, Chessington World of Adventures Resort and SEA LIFE centre required additional foundation supports. After creating a small opening around the tank’s perimeter, 12m2 12m3 of 1100kg/m3 density foamed concrete was pumped into the cavity to fill the area underneath and surrounding the tank.
Foamed concrete proved the most suitable solution as it could flow around the existing supports, encapsulating them without disturbing the tank’s resident rays. With no need to drain or remove the tank whilst the work was completed – Propump offered a lightweight, strong and versatile solution which ensured minimal disruption.
Regularly used to fill underground voids, encapsulate pipes and raise floor levels, the easy application of foamed concrete makes it ideal for sites and facilities where space is at a premium. Pumpable and self-compacting, foamed concrete can mould itself to the shape of any void which in this case resulted in the work being completed quickly and efficiently.
A perfect example of Propump’s flexibility in providing concrete fill solutions of any size and shape, the re-strengthened tank at Chessington World of Adventures Resort and SEA LIFE centre will now provide a perfect home for the attraction’s growing collection of rays and additional sea life.« PROPUMP FOAMED CONCRETE FILLS VICTORIAN UNDERGROUND WALKWAY
